DECISION OF THE BOARD

1. Fifty five year old Ziggy Stardust Buckeridge was scheduled to be seen today to consider the issue of parole.

2. He is serving a life sentence of imprisonment for the murder of 14 year old Julie Sands almost 25 years ago.

3. At the outset Mr Buckeridge’s lawyer, [Withheld], sought an adjournment to enable the assessment of Mr Buckeridge’s suitability to undertake [Withheld] programme to proceed.  He understands this will happen next week.  Mr Buckeridge has, of course, previously [Withheld] but that was some 10 years ago.

4. In any event we granted the request, but with a clear proviso that there was no guarantees that Mr Buckeridge would be granted parole even if he were offered a place at [Withheld].  That is a matter for the next Board.

5. The next hearing will be on 24 May 2017 by AVL, at a time to be advised.  It would be helpful if a formal report could be obtained from [Withheld] as to the outcome of her assessment.  However, no further parole assessment report or psychological reports are required for the next hearing unless there is a significant change in Mr Buckeridge’s circumstances.  In that case, the relevant event should be recorded in a memorandum.
