Decisions

Decisions of the New Zealand Parole Board may be requested under the Official Information Act (OIA).

Up until May 2025, the Parole Board published any hearings decisions the media had requested on its website. As the result of a review that month, it made the decision to stop publishing hearing decisions while it investigated some matters that needed to be addressed. That work is still underway and decisions will not be published until after it has been completed. OIA requests can be made for any hearing decisions you are seeking.

Before releasing any decision, the Board must be satisfied that the public interest in making the decision available outweighs the need to protect the privacy of any natural person (Sections 9(1) and 9(2)(a) of the Official Information Act). This analysis is done on a case-by-case basis.
